Edgar Eugene Scalf, age 91, formerly of Canada, Ky., died at Lexington, Ky., on Thursday, September 1, 2016.

He was a son of the late Willie Morgan Scalf and Ethel Bevins Scalf. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ernestine Damron Scalf; brothers, Willie Morgan Scalf Jr., and Franklin Delano Scalf, and sisters, Ernestine Scalf Blackburn, Maxine Scalf Slater and Janice Scalf Cornette. Survivors include his sons: Daniel R. Scalf (Joan) of Lexington, and Phillip Eugene Scalf (Carla) of Ozark, Mo.; five grandchildren: Becky Scalf Williams (Matthew) of Nicholasville, Ky., Richard Edgar Scalf MD of Lexington, Nicholas Scalf and Harrison Scalf (Erica), both of Springfield, Mo., and Derek Scalf of St Louis, Mo.; six great-grandchildren: Brittany and Aaron Fannin (children of Becky Williams), Jillian, Caleb and Nathan Scalf (children of Richard Scalf) and Madison Scalf (daughter of Harrison Scalf). He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Faye E. Scalf and Eugenia Damron Johnson, and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Edgar was a retired truck driver for the West Virginia Armature Company. He enjoyed his hobby of woodworking for many years. Many family and friends cherish his various projects. He also enjoyed camping with Ernestine and their many "camping buddies". As a teenage paper carrier for the Williamson Daily News, he won a trip to the 1939-1940 World's Fair in New York City, by maintaining a preset quota. He was always very proud of that accomplishment. He served several years on the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member and deacon at the Mt. Pleasant Old Regular Baptist Church of Sidney, Ky. Edgar was well loved in the community by all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, September 3, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel at Belfry, Ky. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 4, at Mt. Pleasant Old Regular Baptist Church with Hobart Hamilton, Stoney Blackburn and Richard Staten presiding. Interment will follow at the Smith Cemetery at Sidney.

Pallbearers will be Richard Scalf, Derek Scalf, Aaron Fannin, Matt Williams, D.G. McCoy, Bryan Ratliff, Stan Scalf and Chris Blackburn.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Mt. Pleasant Old Regular Baptist Church; in care of Daniel Stanley, 78 Brown Road Sidney, KY 41564
