Gertrude Elizabeth Reed of Louisa, Kentucky departed her earthly dwelling with the Lord on Thursday, December 20, 2012, while a patient at the Three Rivers Medical Center. She was born December 5, 1922, at Whitepost, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Benjamin Marcum and Mary Harris Marcum Thompson. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Hensley and Rushia Calhoun. The Lord blessed he with 90 wonderful years and three loving husbands who preceded her in death, John Kirk, Tom Slone and
John Bryant.
Mrs. Reed was a faithful member of the Nolan Freewill Baptist Church for more than 55 years. She owned and operated the Slone Grocery Store at Nolan for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. For more than 72 years of her life she lived at Nolan, West Virginia. In 1994 she moved to Chattaroy where she met her husband Robert L. Reed who was her constant companion and the love of her life. Together, their love for the outdoors and fishing was evident by their move to Yatesville Lake where they enjoyed fishing, boating, and the outdoors. She was a fighter and survivor of breast cancer. Mrs. Reed was loved and respected by all who knew her.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories four children, Honorable James E. (Zella) kirk of Okeechobee, Florida, Benjamin Tom (Brenda) Slone of Chattaroy, West Virginia, Mary Frances Blackburn of Louisa, Kentucky and Sheila (Michael) Tuck of Centersburg, Ohio, brother-in-law, Richard Hensley of Columbus, Ohio, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and a very special niece and her husband, Rose and Jimmy Maynard.

Funeral Services will be held at the Little Dove United Baptist Church, on Saturday, December 23, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Elder Scott Slone officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, West Virginia. Visitation at the church from 6-9p.m. on Saturday evening.
