Life Legacy

Robert Harold Dove, 90, of Garden Oaks, formerly of the New Hope Road, Princeton died Monday evening, March 30, 2009 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born April 20, 1918 in Princeton, he was the son of the late Clyde S. Dove and Lura Martha Dove. Harold was a graduate of Mercer School and graduating from Princeton High School in 1937. He attended West Virginia Business College. Harold was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy, Aviation Company. Upon his return to Princeton, he had worked in the Food industry, having been a representative for General Foods Corporation and Bluefield Produce and Provision Company. In 1955, Harold established and founded Dove Sign Company here in Princeton and retired in 1983. Harold was an active member of the Immanuel Baptist Church on the New Hope Road in Princeton, having served as a Deacon, former Sunday school Director, Discipleship Training Director, Bible Teacher for more than 40 years, choir member, Trustee and served as the Chairman of the Building Committee. Harold also served as Treasurer of Mountain State Baptist Association since 1977 until his death. He represented the West Virginia Southern Baptists as Trustee to Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, in Mill Valley, California from 1989 until 1999, and then was given the honor of being named Honorary Trustee for Life. Harold was known widely in the Gideons International circle, having served as West Virginia State President, State Secretary, State Chaplain, State Faith Fund Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Memorial Bible Coordinator, Area Coordinator, also Represented West Virginia Gideons in Extension Action Program to Indonesia in 1983. He served in offices in both Princeton and Bluefield Gideon Camps. Harold had received numerous honors and awards, none greater than be named Emeritus of the Gideons International. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a infant daughter Nancy, along with siblings, Jesse W. Dove, C.O. Dick Dove, Sgt. Clyde Dove Jr., shot down over Berlin in World War II. Survivors include, his loving and caring wife, whom he married, September 23, 1939, Dorothy Janice Wright Dove of Princeton. Three Children Robert H. Bobby Dove and his wife Margaret of Princeton Brenda Dove Collier of Myrtle Beach SC Tonja Dove Bailey and husband Bomba Dale of Princeton Seven Grandchildren whom he loved Rebecca, Donna, Crystal, Misty, Chad, Lorri and Nathan Seven Great Grandchildren Amber, Bayli, Madisen, Chase, Vera, Mackenzey and Ethanie Siblings Mary Brady of Abingdon Virginia June Cardwell of Charleston Ella Mae Luggie Wagner of Burlington NC A service to celebrate Harolds life will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 5, 2009 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Dan Jividen, Jim Hendricks, Dr. Rick Sadler and Dr. Don Deel officiating. Entombment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family today (Saturday) from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Deacons of the Church, Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gideons International and Pastors of Mountain State Baptist Association. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts of love can be made to Gideon Memorial Scripture Fund, P.O.
