Brooks Lawson Jr. Kiwanis Scholarship Jacob Brooks “Brookie” Lawson Jr. was born January 20, 1930 in Williamson to the late J. Brooks Lawson and Lesta Megrail Lawson. In 1947, he graduated from Williamson high school and went on to West Virginia University from 1947 to 1951 and served in the United States Military Services from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean conflict. After being honorably discharged from service, he entered the WVU Law School in 1954 and earned his law degree in 1957. He promptly joined his father in law firm in January 1957. He was associated with his father in the law firm of Lawson & Lawson for many years until the senior Lawson’s death and had continued the practice ever since. He was a practicing attorney in Williamson for nearly 40 years. He was bank president, chairman of the Williamson Utility Board and long active in the Boy Scout movement and Kiwanis Club. Through the suffering from a lingering illness, he maintained his involvement in business affairs and other activities. Lawson was president, director and past president of the First National Bank of Williamson and has served as manager and director of The Mountaineer Hotel Company for many years. The family has long been prominently identified with the business, church and social life of Williamson and environs.
