Peirce E. Whitt, 68, of Williamson, passed away Sun., Aug. 9, 2015, at his daughter's house in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Born Nov. 12, 1946, at Matewan, W.Va., he was a son of the late John Jr. and Mary Jane Hatfield Whitt who were from Matewan. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mike Whitt.
Peirce was the former director of the Williamson Park Board; he worked for the Mingo County BOE and the City of Williamson for 37 years; he was the co-owner of Starters Restaurant for 21 years; a member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge; a veteran of the U.S. Army and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Kathe Harvit Whitt; his loving daughter, Kelly Whitt Deluca and her husband, Dave Deluca of Ponte Vedra Beach; a sister, Debbie Whitt Justice of Ripley, W.Va.; brother, Mark Whitt of Matewan; his loving grandchildren, Zoe Grace Deluca and Ella Rose Deluca of Ponte Vedra Beach; his special pets that he loved so dearly, Ziggy Whitt and Sweet Pea, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss him greatly.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 13, in the Williamson Fieldhouse with Ronnie Matney officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, W.Va.
Pallbearers will be Dave King, Dave Hurley, Michael Brewster, Mike Vanhorn, C. J. Sammons, Danny Henry, Mark Steven Whitt, Larry Jack New, Dave Deluca and Michael John Whitt.
Honorary pallbearers are Sam Olive, Jim Whitt, Jimmy Chris Whitt, Ronnie Whitt, Chris Ooten, Steve Wilson, Darrin McCormick, John Mark Hubbard and Truman Chafin.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wed., Aug. 12, at the fieldhouse.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Peirce Whitt's memory for the restoration project at the Williamson Memorial Fieldhouse, which was a National Historic Landmark and project that he was committed to fulfilling. Donations are to be sent to Peirce Whitt Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 950, Williamson, WV 25661.
